In school, he gravitated toward art, later studying painting and ceramics in college. Now in his seventies, those life experiences continue to shape his art. Rick lives in a farmhouse built in 1885, with a backyard barn that serves as his ceramic studio and workshop, while another barn displays his finished work. Rick begins each piece with a vision, but lets the process and materials guide the outcome. He believes the most meaningful art often emerges when he follows the unexpected - letting the work move through him, rather than control it. Would you like to be featured in our Friday News? Deadline is August 10th. More info HERE ARTS IN THE NEWS Safe Harbors' inaugural season of StoryCON will wrap up this Saturday, July 26 at 6pm with an All-Star Finale event on Safe Harbors Green. The evening will feature past winners from this season competing for a $500 cash prize, as well as guest storytellers including City of Newburgh Mayor Torrance Harvey. Admission to this special finale is free and open to the public. This first season of StoryCON has featured 46 storytellers over six months of events, and we look forward to the return of the program in 2026. This summer marks the first-ever OC Arts Month, a county-wide celebration of the arts running from July 24 through August 18. Organized by the Arts Organizations Committee of the Orange County NY Arts Council, the month is designed to uplift the many artistic voices already active in the region—and to make it easier for the public to find and engage with them.
