ART AFFAIR
This annual event celebrates the power of creativity and the vibrant artistic community in Orange County. In 2024, the Art Affair focused on the theme
"The Underground: Celebrating Counterculture in the Arts." The event explored the world of counterculture and its influence on the arts throughout the decades. It encourages creativity and innovative thinking, setting itself apart from typical galas and art events. This year's event aimed to represent the underrepresented, featuring artists and creatives who have not been celebrated in such a manner before. Through the events immersive experiences, diverse performances, and complex art installations, the message was clear: "All are welcome here. You belong."
In conjunction with this event, the Arts Council commissioned 6 original works and offered performance and presentation grants to many more, totaling $14,000 of direct to artist payments.
Commissioned artists included Lotuz, Bradford Scobie as Sir Richard Castle & Friends, Jena Argenta, JRtheArrist, Rich Delvecchio & Olivia Ferrara, and Chris Roque. Additional works were presented by Shawn Rawls, J.A.G.H., Laces Out, Emelia Estep and Jim Savage.
The program also included the presentation of the 2024 OCNY Art Awards, celebrating those who have made outstanding contributions to the arts in Orange County and beyond. This year's honorees include:
Orange County Human Rights Commission's Student Art Show,
Liz Neilsen & Carolina Wheat, Elijah Wheat Showroom
Russell Ger, Conductor, Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestra
Production Resource Group (PRG)
Proceeds from The Art Affair directly support programs and cultural events such as the Hudson Valley Creative Impact Conference, the Student Arts Showcase, OCLive!, Arts Outreach initiatives, and Community Arts Grant.
